Guessing game, this kind of mental game will enable the kids to think harder. You should have them think of a number 1 to 100 and ask them questions like, "Is the number less than 30?" or is the number divisible by 3? Ask him as many questions to figure out what number he has in mind. Once you have guessed the number, you exchange places and think a number for yourself. Your kid will now be the next to ask you questions about your number. This game will help your kid think about the characteristics of numbers.
If your third grader needs help with math, there are many useful tools that can downloaded directly from the computer. Math is a subject that is best taught with visual aids, making the lessons more tangible for students. Third grade can be particularly challenging when it comes to math, as this is the year that students are learning about fractions, measuring and weighing objects, graphing and counting money. Most importantly, third graders should be comfortable with the basics of math such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. If your child isn't comfortable with these basic components, it's almost inevitable that he or she will struggle with future math lessons.
Just because your child will be playing fun online games doesn't mean the same value won't be there. Create a comfortable study zone. Turn off outside distractions such as cell phones, radios or TVs. Make sure your child is not tired or hungry so that he or she can focus all attention on learning. Also try to keep the lessons consistent with what is being learned in school. A quick chat with the teacher or signing up for an online newsletter from the classroom are ways to keep tabs on the lesson plans.
Since 3rd grade math relies on the concepts that were learned during kindergarten, first and second grades, don't be afraid to start your child at a lower level. With adaptive learning, the programs won't move on to the next level until your child has a firm grasp on the current material. The online games will be a wonderful way for your child to catch up on basic arithmetic concepts and be comfortable using them across applications.
Card games usually need math skills. Children will really enjoy playing cards without realizing that they are already practicing the concepts of fraction. First, you should mix up a deck of playing cards which are numbered only. Divide the group in two teams. Ask kids to choose one card each. There need to be a student who will act as a denominator and a numerator. Whichever student simplifies the fraction first contends against the player next in line. The game ends when only one student is left.
With adaptive learning programs, your child won't just play one level and complete the program. The games offer a comprehensive learning tool that works with kids from kindergarten through third grade. With hundreds of levels, different ways to play and constant interaction, the online games never lose their meaning. The same children can play the games but in different ways, since the programs are tailored toward the learning styles of each child. This is what makes adaptive learning an essential tool in classrooms as well.
