Children can work with simple numbers worksheets from quite an early age and you will have greater success in getting them to work on the worksheets if you combine that learning work with something practical, or at least something they enjoy doing. For example, if you are using a simple addition and subtraction worksheet with your child, draw or type up another sheet of with squares and numbers printed onto them. Instead of writing the answers to the questions on the worksheet you can get your child to cut and paste the required numbers for the answers from from the second worksheet onto the first.
Use every opportunity to reinforce counting skills in practical situations. For example the child could count out three biscuits, two bananas etc. The child needs to be able to relate the number to a symbol i.e identify the shape of the written number. For each number, bring models of the number (you can make cut-outs of the number in card-board) and pass around to all children. Try to make many so that you can give one to each child. They can build up a collection of the numbers 0 to 9.
One way to teach them about money is to make a game out of it. Have some change available and let them win the change when asked a question. Make each question a different value. An example would be question number 1 would be worth 3 cents. Lay the money out for them to choose the three cents and if they do it correctly the first time they get to keep the money. Have some prizes at the end of the game so that they can purchase items again counting back the money to you to make that purchase. This will teach them how to count with out them realizing they are learning. To them it is just a game but they will learn how to count money.
As his age progresses, adapt to his needs. You may include advance preschool worksheets that are more on mathematics, reading, writing, perception and more general knowledge. With the help of these pre-school worksheets your child can develop the basic skills he needed when he starts his formal education.
I'm not saying that if you don't train your child during these early years will totally be a failure. No child is born a genius, and none is born a fool. Other children have inherited skills and talents from their parents that contribute to their confidence as they grow up. Others too who were not pre-schooled can learn things easily. But there's a big difference in stimulating the child's brain during their early years than not at all. See below:
A variance to counting money game would be to start them out with their own money pot, then if they get the answer wrong, they have to give back money to you. Each question would either add to their pot or deduct. At the end of the game you will still want to have the prizes available for purchase and allowing them to earn their prizes. Using games to learn about money is much easier than getting free money worksheets and having them try to add on paper. This interactive money game will be a great learning tool in your home school.
